The Hipsters are at it again. As if the obsession with vinyl wasn’t annoying enough, now cassette tapes are “all the rage”…again? This sounds like something Urban Outfitters had something to do with. I am so sick of the hipsters telling me what is unconventionally “cool” and changing the…
This was Blogged by someone in my Record Promotion class. I found the gratuitous use of ”Hipster” hilarious. So what if people want to buy something on cassette, it is cheaper for small artists to produce than vinyl, and Grace stop trying to be clever by saying your parents had vinyl so you have been cool for forever, all our parents have vinyl. That is all there was. The fact of the matter is that some artists want to have a physical product, something people will remember. You can’t even give out CDs anymore. People notice tapes. Where do you think the hip hop mix-tape genre came from?

Well it seems that the biggest thing to hit the music buisness industry this week was the results of the hightly anticipated F8 confrence in which Facebook announced its plan to sync with some of the biggest music websites (sorry myspace). One company that was not on the roster of new facebbok allies however was Apple. The online music retail super giant chose to remain independent of the social media king whos media integration will provide artists and fans with an even easier way to access and aquire new music. Perhaps Apple didn’t want to compete against its own Ping social networking service by directly entering the facebook circuit. In my opinion however, Apple as a corporation’s number 1 motive is to make a profit. It appears that they may have just wounded their chances to sell significantly more songs by denying a fecebook integration. Fans can still access itunes through Facebok but they must first travel to an intermediary. For instance underneath a song on spotify (who decided to integrate with facebook) you can choose to buy that track on itunes. From an economic standpoint its simple, the farther a potential customer has to travel, be it real world or cyberspace (i.e. more clicks away from the original page), the less likely they are to continue the process and buy the product. http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2011/09/a-major-player-is-missing-from-facebook-music-and-its-a-costly-.html Brent Rawlinson
Should anyone find intrest in what I find interesting. This is my new blog, more streamlined and focused, though of course I will deviate sometimes. Please follow it.
It will be about modern Folk music with maybe a little thrifting, vintage, city living, and 50s aspects thrown in.
